Traveling by chicken bus sounds like a lot of fun. I thoroughly enjoyed this post! Antigua’s been on my list for a while but now you’ve shed light on other great places. Thanks for sharing Marielle!
I’m glad you enjoyed the post. I think the best way to experience the rich local culture in Central America is to travel by chicken bus. It’s also a fun way to notice cultural differences in the region. Like the chicken buses in Belize played mostly reggae instead of cumbia, and the buses in El Salvador had the most incredible food sold on board.
What a wonderful Guatemala trip you had. I remember being a little nervous as your mom about your odyssey to get to the mountaintop place, dropped off in the dark and picked up in a truck and then led 30 minutes by another guy to your wonderful jungle destination. But you teach me with your courage and faith in people to dare to be more adventurous! Your description of the candelit cave diving was another sign of your courage. Wow! I don't know that I could have done that. And you described it so beautifully. I'll happily join your next trip to Guatemala!
I’m so glad the post inspired you to visit this beautiful country. It sounds sketchy but sometimes trusting your gut and believing the best in people leads to the most beautiful experiences.
